GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
Employees in the position supervise machinists and fabricators who build subcomponents for Orenco's products, as well as tooling to support other manufacturing processes. The supervisor must have knowledge of CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) and manual machining, and metal fabrication sufficient drive process improvements, make production plans, ensure adequate cross training, and to hold direct reports accountable for performance and quality requirements. The work requires knowledge of supervisory techniques, personnel policies, and procedures. They enthusiastically lead other workers to support Orenco's vision, safety, quality, and department goals. They build a team environment by communicating well and by being a role model of positive, effective, and influential leadership to others.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA (Key Result Areas):
> Safety/Culture
- Continuously maintains Orenco management's safety, cultural, and professional standards.
- Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment to all employees.
- Ensures adherence to Orenco safety policies.
> Shop Operations
- Prioritize, schedule, and assign projects and other work to subordinates.
- Monitor low-inventory list and ensure subcomponents are stocked to prescribed levels.
- Ensure the machine shop and fabrication shop has the tools and supplied needed.
- Maintain list of setup and cycle times for each production subcomponent produced.
- Analyzes blueprints ands ketches in order to plan material, equipment, and labor needed to accomplish tasks.
- Operates machines and other equipment to observe operation and diagnose malfunctions or to test repaired equipment.
- Participate in design review on new projects and products.
> Administrative
- Providesleadershipbyconductingteammeetings,coordinatingworkflow, addressing disciplinary and performance issues, communicating company mission, ensuring team job rotation, monitoring attendance, evaluating performance, identifying team strengths and weaknesses, and acting as a representative of the company by implementing company policies and maintaining compliance to state and federal laws.
- Possesses the authority to administer disciplinary action up to the verbal warning. Recommends further disciplinary action to upper management and the HR (Human Resources) department.
- Follows through on all phases of the disciplinary action process, as determined by upper management and the HR department.
- Approves vacation leave requests, promotions, transfers, and time off due to lack of work within the production department.
- Addresses and resolves personnel problems surrounding team conflict, productivity, performance, and other human relations issues.
- Trains and monitors employee compliance in safety and quality procedures and processes. Conducts interviews, communicates hiring selections to human resources staff, and assigns employee after hire is made.
- Follows HR direction and company policy ensuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotion.
- Evaluates and verifies employee performance through daily review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
- Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.
- Participates as Tier 2 Leader in Managing for Daily Improvement program.
> Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed. Occasional long hours may be required.
> Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is required.
> Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Six years of experience in the machining trade, or equivalent experience to be evaluated on an individual basis.
- Completion of initial eight-hour Emergency Response & HW (HazWopper) Operations level training is required. Completion of the annual eight-hour HW-Operations Level training is required thereafter. Training description: Emergency communication, alarms and evacuation routes, contingency plan implementation/emergency response procedures, emergency equipment use and inspection, incident response (fire, explosion, soil, and water contamination), and site shut down procedures. Hazardous waste management - handling and storage rules. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the machinist trade.
- Considerable knowledge of the machining qualities, properties, and uses of various metals such as aluminum, brass, steel, cast iron, and stainless steel.
- Knowledge of employment law and has the ability to make decisions related to discrimination, sexual harassment, disabilities, work related injuries, progressive discipline, wage and hour issues, and all other applicable areas in which poor judgment could cause a negative impact on the company.
- Considerable skill in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
- Ability to apply machinist craft techniques, processes, and principles.
- Ability to apply shop mathematics to practical problems such as computing dimensions, laying out work, and setting up machine tools.
- Ability to read and work from sketches, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to determine work priorities and delegate work to others.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Understands, interprets, and edits FANUC G-code programming.
- Ability to setup, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC lathes and mills without assistance.
- Must be self-sufficient.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
- Must have satisfactory driving record, maintain valid driver's license, and current insurance on personal vehicle if used for business. Must meet company insurability requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor production environment involving some limited exposures to Acetylene and Nitrogen gases, varying quantities of gaseous carbon dioxide, paints, and solvent fumes. Exposure levels are below standard limits and respirators are available. Some exposure to glare generated from welding and cutting torch processes, cuts and scrapes which require the wearing of personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, face shields, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, periods of sitting including time viewing a computer screen. Time on manufacturing floor includes prolonged periods of standing and walking on concrete floors, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, holding, measuring, cutting, stacking, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, repetitive foot and hand movement with good manual dexterity. Duties may require unassisted lifting of up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 70 lbs., lifting over 70 lbs. must be assisted. Occasional operation of a motor vehicle.
