GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an advanced-level position that provides project management and technical support for wastewater collection and treatment system operation controls. Work will generally be focused on design assistance and providing support for custom controls as part of Orenco Treatment Systems. The Systems Engineering Controls Specialist will regularly interact with internal Orenco staff and external contacts regarding controls for Orenco products. The Systems Engineering Controls Specialist will be responsible for preparing and reviewing the SOO (Sequence of Operations) for control panel designs, reviewing designs, participating in start-ups, troubleshooting existing systems, and coordinating repairs to existing control panels. The Systems Engineering Controls Specialist will prepare and participate in a wide range of project specific documentation including, but not limited to, proposals, specifications, design review letters, and quotes. The Systems Engineering Controls Specialist will also work closely with the Orenco Controls division to streamline the communication and quoting process between divisions, and to effectively communicate customer feedback and observations.

>Systems Engineering Support
- Supports the systems engineering team with new custom controls.
- Acts as a point of contact within systems engineering for the Controls Division.
- Oversees quotes of custom controls for the systems engineering team to ensure consistency.
- Trains new employees on controls applications and processes.
- Provides customer feedback, internal review, and recommendations for potential changes to products and product documentation.
- May attend startups as need arises
- Provides a variety of design support services for commercial and municipal treatment projects. These activities include, but aren't limited to, proposals, plan reviews, design review letters, specifications, project submittals, project specific drawings, quotes, and custom O&M (Operations & Maintenance) manuals.
>Post-Sales Support
- Supports the Utility Operations team on existing control systems.
- Troubleshoots existing controls issues as need arises, solicits assistance from Orenco Controls as necessary.
- Assists existing clients in identifying and programming capital improvements that may be necessary to update obsolete control panels.
- Provides feedback to R&D (Research and Development) and Controls staff with regards to complaints or design issues with existing control panels.
>Reporting
- Thoroughly documents all tasks and customer interactions in CRM (Customer Relations Management).
- Inputs, updates, and ensures accuracy of customer contact information in CRM.
- Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, CRM opportunity database.
- Provides accurate, up-to-date, opportunity forecasting reports.
- Submits and distributes timely activity and trip reports.
- Summarizes and provides information to the R&D group regarding existing designs.
>Is familiar with all Orenco-related products and technologies.
>Is familiar with 3rd party equipment used on commercial and municipal treatment opportunities.
>Will occasionally perform additional duties of systems engineering, regional sales, utility operations, and customer service teams.
>Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed. Occasional long hours may be required.
>Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is required.
>Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
An BS engineering degree or equivalent is required. Education should include coursework in mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years' experience in electrical and/or controls systems.
- 2 years' experience in water/wastewater field a plus.
- High level of expertise with motors and industrial controls.
- Thorough understanding of controls specifications and instrumentation.
- In depth knowledge of various brands of digital logic, web-based telemetry, programmable logic controllers, and HMI (Human Machine Interface) controllers. Including, but not limited to, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Phoenix Contact, Allen Bradley, IDEC, Maple Systems, and Automation Direct.
- High level expertise with VFD's (Variable Frequency Drives), TSD's (Touch Screen Displays), and programming.
- In depth knowledge of NEC (National Electric Code) and UL (Underwriters Laboratory) 508a/698a requirements.
- UL 508a/698a Manufacturer Technical Rep Certification preferred.
- Wastewater treatment processes experience preferred.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply engineering skills to problem solving and analysis.
- Above average organizational skills are required.
- Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, customer service-oriented manner.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and extreme variations in educational levels.
- Competent ability with word-processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
- Able and willing to travel a minimum of 10% of the work time. This requirement will fluctuate depending on the region assignments, market maturity, other regional resources, territory size, business needs and other objectives.
- Travel requirement includes meeting current travel requirements with airlines as well as in final destinations.
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
- Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
- Must have satisfactory driving record, maintain valid driver's license, and current insurance on personal vehicle if used for business. Must meet company insurability requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily office environment. Travel requirements will include operation of a motor vehicle, airplane travel, and overnight stays in temporary lodging. Requires the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations. Includes exposure to outside weather conditions when at customer sites. Conducting field work may include occasional exposure to wastewater, requiring proper use of personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, prolonged periods of sitting including extended time viewing a computer screen. Intermittent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, driving, and occasional light lifting of under 20 lbs. May also include occasional unassisted lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 70 lbs. Lifting over 70 lbs. must be assisted. Airplane travel and operation of a motor vehicle with the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations, is required.
