A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A UTILITY OPERATIONS PROJECT MANAGER

As a Utility Operations Project Manager your purpose is to provide post sales project management for major projects. Work will primarily be focused on new installations of Prelos™, LOS™ (Liquid Only Sewer) systems, or large AdvanTex® treatment systems. The Utility Operations Project Manager will regularly interact with internal Orenco staff, contractors/installers, designers/inspectors, and business partners to ensure that the equipment is being installed in accordance with Orenco's current instructions, conduct routine site visits, and coordinate any warranty and/or field repair work that may be required on these projects.

The Utility Operations Project Manager will:

  • Conduct regular site visits throughout the construction period.
  • Conduct Installation trainings and final equipment assembly trainings as required.
  • Make recommendations to System Engineering and R&D staff based on installer feedback.
  • Manage cases and coordinate field repair work that arises during and after construction.
  • Monitor the status of unpaid invoices and coordinate payment schedules.
  • Improve methods for internal and customer-facing processes.
  • Thoroughly document all tasks and customer interactions in CRM (Customer Relations Management.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A UTILITY OPERATIONS PROJECT MANAGER

  • BS (Bachelor of Science) in Engineering degree or higher is required. PE (Professional Engineer) registration is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in construction management, wastewater project management, asset management, or manufacturing.
  • Ability to give technical presentations to a large audience.
  • Hands on construction experience is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, and customer service-oriented manner.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time position typically works during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early or late shift as needed. This position also travels at least 30% of the time.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an advanced-level position that provides post sales project management for major projects. Work will primarily be focused on new installations of Prelos™, LOS™ (Liquid Only Sewer) systems, or large AdvanTex® treatment systems. The Utility Operations Project Manager will regularly interact with internal Orenco staff, contractors/installers, designers/inspectors, and business partners to ensure that the equipment is being installed in accordance with Orenco's current instructions, conduct routine site visits, and coordinate any warranty and/or field repair work that may be required on these projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA (Key Result Areas):

> Safety/Culture

  • Continuously maintains Orenco management's safety, cultural, and professional standards.
  • Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment to all employees.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and promotes safe work practices to all associates and clients.

> Post-Sales Project Management

  • Conducts regular site visits throughout construction period.
  • Conduct installation trainings and final equipment assembly trainings as required.
  • Regularly interacts with contractors, engineers/
  • Makes recommendations to Systems Engineering and R&D (Research and Development) staff based off installer feedback.
  • Manages cases and coordinates field repair work that arise during and after construction.
  • Monitors the status of unpaid invoices and coordinated payment schedules.
  • Maintains contact as necessary with sold major projects and works to resolve any issues they may be experiencing.
  • Coordinates post sales troubleshooting activities and timelines on problem sites.

> Planning

  • Improves methods for internal and customer-facing processes.
  • Volunteers and participates in team, department, and organizational initiatives.
  • Coordinates with various departments within Orenco regarding team initiatives and objectives.
  • Sets and strives to complete annual personal development goals.
  • Works with existing phased projects to establish timelines and the scope of work for phases.

> Systems Engineering Support

  • Participates in research projects, as time permits.
  • Supports in the commissioning of commercial and municipal collection and/or treatment systems.
  • Works with existing clients to adopt and update specifications and standards that promote Orenco products.

> Reporting

  • Thoroughly documents all tasks and customer interactions in CRM (Customer Relations Management).
  • Inputs, updates, and ensures accuracy of customer contact information in CRM.
  • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, CRM opportunity database.
  • Submits and distributes timely activity and trip reports.
  • Summarizes and provides information to the R&D group regarding existing designs.

> Selling

  • Increases sales and improves the overall customer experience by providing value-add product recommendations to stakeholders that utilize Orenco wastewater infrastructure.
  • Educates external stakeholders.
  • Learns and demonstrates effective use of Integrity Selling.
  • Coordinates with other company staff to accomplish the work required to address problems with projects in the construction phase.
  • Actively pursues to speak at conferences or author papers that promote Orenco technologies.
  • Works with marketing to write and create case studies that summarize pertinent observations and data from existing Orenco systems.
  • Works with collection system clients to assure that spec erosion doesn't occur and to coordinate the supply of LOS and/or Prelos units for project infill.

> Is familiar with all Orenco-related products and technologies.

> Is familiar with 3rd party equipment used on commercial and municipal treatment opportunities.

> Will occasionally perform additional duties of systems engineering team, the regional sales team, asset management and customer service team.

> Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed. Occasional long hours may be required.

> Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is required.

> Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:

A BS (Bachelor of Science) in Engineering degree or higher is required. PE (Professional Engineer) registration is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years' experience in construction management, wastewater project management, or asset management, or manufacturing.
  • Above average organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, courteous, customer service-oriented manner.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to give technical presentations to a large audience.
  • Hands on construction experience is a plus.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and extreme variations in educational levels.
  • Competent ability with applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Must be willing and able to travel a minimum of 30% of the work time. This requirement will fluctuate depending on the region assignments, market maturity, other regional resources, territory size, business needs and other objectives.
  • Travel requirement includes meeting current travel requirements with airlines as well as in final destinations.
  • Ability to be flexible and change priorities with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
  • Must have satisfactory driving record, maintain valid driver's license, and current insurance on personal vehicle if used for business. Must meet company insurability requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Primarily office environment. Travel requirements may include operation of a motor vehicle, airplane travel, and overnight stays in temporary lodging. Requires the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations. Includes exposure to outside weather conditions when traveling and at customer sites. Conducting field work may include occasional exposure to wastewater, requiring proper use of personal protective equipment including but not limited to gloves.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, prolonged periods of sitting including extended time viewing a computer screen. Intermittent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, holding, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, driving, and occasional light lifting of under 20 lbs. May also include occasional unassisted lifting of up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 70 lbs. Lifting over 70 lbs. must be assisted. Operation of a motor vehicle and airplane travel with the ability to visit project sites that are situated on a variety of developed and undeveloped terrain/locations, is and/or may be required.
